TruGreen has built a national reputation as one of the largest professional lawn care providers in the country, with more than 200 franchise branches serving homeowners nearly everywhere. Understanding how the service actually works, beyond the marketing, helps set realistic expectations before signing up for a plan.

How Service Begins

Every TruGreen plan starts the same way: a certified specialist performs a Healthy Lawn Analysis, evaluating grass type, soil condition, climate, and how the lawn gets used before building a tailored care approach, according to This Old House's 2026 review. From there, service visits typically happen every four to six weeks, with most plans including seven to nine visits annually.

The Main Plan Tiers

TruGreen structures its residential plans into a few core tiers, according to the company's own plan breakdown. TruBasic serves as an entry point, covering a lawn assessment and seasonal fertilization and weed control, though it notably doesn't include the TruGreen Guarantee. TruCore steps up to more advanced, customized care with fertilization, weed control, insect treatments, and soil enhancement in certain service areas. TruPro sits at the top, aiming for what the company calls golf-course-quality results, adding lawn-damaging insect control and aeration on top of everything included in the lower tiers.

Beyond the core lawn plans, standalone add-ons are available too, including mosquito defense, tree and shrub care, and pest control around the home's perimeter.

What the Healthy Lawn Guarantee Actually Covers

For annual plan customers on TruCore or TruPro (not TruBasic), TruGreen's guarantee means a specialist will return between scheduled visits at no added charge if issues come up, adjusting treatment as needed until the lawn reaches its potential. It's worth noting this guarantee is tied specifically to full annual plans rather than one-off or partial services.

What TruGreen Doesn't Cover

It's just as important to know the limits. According to HomeGuide's 2026 breakdown, TruGreen's services don't include mowing, sod installation, or mole removal, so homeowners still need separate arrangements for those tasks. Weed control results typically start appearing within 10 to 14 days, though most customers see the most noticeable improvement after a full year of consistent treatment.

What Plans Typically Run

Annual plan charges generally fall between roughly $450 and $2,000 depending on lawn size, location, and which add-ons are included, according to Today's Homeowner's 2026 cost guide. Individual visits within a plan typically run between $65 and $225. Standalone services carry their own separate charges, such as roughly $50 to $125 for weed control alone or $200 to $300 for aeration and seeding.

FAQs

Does every TruGreen plan include the Healthy Lawn Guarantee?
No, TruBasic does not include the guarantee, while TruCore and TruPro annual plans do.

Will TruGreen mow my lawn?
No, mowing is not part of any TruGreen plan and needs to be arranged separately.

How soon will I see results after treatment starts?
Weed control typically shows visible progress within 10 to 14 days, but the most significant improvement usually appears after about a year of ongoing service.

Can I add services like mosquito control to a basic lawn plan?
Yes, standalone services like mosquito defense, pest control, and tree and shrub care can be added on top of any core lawn plan.

Conclusion

TruGreen's tiered plan structure gives homeowners a reasonable degree of flexibility, from a basic seasonal approach up to a full-service program with the Healthy Lawn Guarantee attached. Since coverage, add-ons, and annual charges vary by lawn size and location, getting a specific estimate through a local specialist visit is the most reliable way to know what a particular property will actually need.
