Airport lounges used to be reserved almost exclusively for first and business class travelers, but membership programs like Priority Pass have changed that. The program now connects members to more than 1,900 airport lounges and travel experiences across over 600 cities and 143 countries, regardless of which airline or cabin class someone is flying.

The Three Membership Tiers

Priority Pass structures its membership around three tiers, each built for a different travel frequency:

Standard is aimed at occasional travelers and carries an annual fee of $99, working out to roughly $8.25 a month. This tier typically requires paying a per-visit fee each time a lounge is used.

Standard Plus is designed for regular travelers, with an annual fee of $329 (about $27.42 a month). This tier generally includes a set number of complimentary visits before per-visit charges apply.

Prestige targets frequent flyers, with an annual fee of $469 (roughly $39.08 a month), and typically includes unlimited lounge visits for the member.

Each tier grants access to the same global lounge network — the difference lies in how many visits are included before additional charges kick in.

What's Actually Included

Inside the lounges themselves, members generally get access to a quiet space away from the terminal, along with complimentary snacks, beverages, and in many international lounges, full meals. Most locations also provide Wi-Fi, and select lounges include showers for longer layovers or overnight connections. Beyond the lounges, Priority Pass has expanded into what it calls travel experiences, which can include restaurant credits, workspaces, and even meet-and-assist services at certain airports, where an agent helps travelers navigate check-in, security, or transfers.

It's worth noting that lounge access is always subject to space availability, and at some busier locations, members can pre-book a spot in advance for a small fee through the Priority Pass app or website.

How Credit-Card-Linked Access Works

Many travelers never sign up for Priority Pass directly because their credit card already includes it. Cards like the American Express Platinum or certain Chase products bundle in what's known as Priority Pass Select, a version of membership issued through a partnership between the airline or card issuer and Priority Pass. According to NerdWallet's overview of Priority Pass Select, the exact benefits, including guest access rules and which lounges are included, can vary significantly depending on the issuing card, so it's important to check the specific card's terms rather than assume blanket access.

One key distinction: cardholders with Priority Pass Select tied to their card generally need to activate the membership separately, either by logging into an online account or calling the number on the back of the card, before it becomes usable at lounges.

FAQs

Can I use Priority Pass at any airport lounge?
No, access is limited to lounges within the Priority Pass network, which varies by airport, so checking the app or website before travel is recommended.

Do credit-card-linked memberships include the same perks as a paid membership?
Not always. Some premium add-ons, like meet-and-assist services, are noted as unavailable to members who access Priority Pass through a card or banking partner rather than a direct membership.

Can I bring guests into a lounge?
Guest access depends on the specific membership or card terms, so it varies by issuer and membership tier.

What happens if a lounge is full?
Access is subject to space availability at the lounge operator's discretion, and pre-booking is available at select locations to help avoid this.

Conclusion

Priority Pass membership in 2026 comes down to matching the tier, or the credit card, to actual travel habits. Occasional travelers may find the Standard tier's lower annual fee balanced out by per-visit charges, while frequent flyers often get more value from Prestige's unlimited access. For anyone already holding a premium travel credit card, checking whether Priority Pass Select is already included is worth doing before signing up for a separate membership.
