Full-mouth reconstruction is for rebuilding or restoring many or all of the teeth when extensive dental problems affect multiple areas of the mouth. Unlike a single dental procedure, a reconstruction plan can combine treatments such as crowns, bridges, dental implants, implant-supported teeth, dentures, periodontal treatment, extractions, bone grafting and other restorative procedures.

What Is Full-Mouth Reconstruction?

Full-mouth reconstruction generally refers to an individualized treatment plan that restores many teeth or addresses several significant dental problems throughout the mouth.

It may be considered when a patient has combinations of:

Multiple missing teeth
Severely damaged or broken teeth
Extensive tooth decay
Advanced tooth wear
Failing crowns or bridges
Significant bite problems
Gum or periodontal problems
Teeth that cannot reasonably be restored
Extensive previous dental work requiring replacement

The treatment plan depends on which teeth can be preserved and which need replacement.

This distinction matters because full-mouth reconstruction does not automatically mean replacing every tooth with dental implants.

One patient might receive crowns and bridges while preserving most natural teeth. Another may require a combination of extractions and implants. Someone with extensive tooth loss could instead compare fixed full-arch implants with implant-supported or conventional dentures.

How Much Does Full-Mouth Reconstruction Cost in 2026?

Full-mouth reconstruction has one of the broadest price ranges in dentistry because it is not a standardized procedure.

Current published CareCredit data lists full-mouth dental reconstruction at approximately:

$12,577 to $33,272

Its more detailed reconstruction data reports:

Full Dental Reconstruction	Published Average	Published Range
Lower-cost reconstruction category	$12,577	$9,821–$24,008
Higher-cost reconstruction category	$33,272	$25,720–$63,657

These are national published reference figures rather than treatment quotes.

A complex reconstruction involving extensive implant surgery, bone grafting, multiple restorations or both arches can differ substantially from these averages.

What Determines the Cost of Full-Mouth Reconstruction?

Two people seeking full-mouth reconstruction can receive dramatically different quotes because the treatment plan can involve completely different procedures.

Major cost factors include:

Number of Teeth Being Treated

Restoring six damaged teeth is very different from rebuilding both arches.

Whether Natural Teeth Can Be Preserved

If teeth can be restored with crowns or other procedures, the plan can differ significantly from one involving extraction and implant replacement.

Dental Implants

Implant treatment introduces costs for surgical placement, restorative components and potentially additional procedures.

Bone Grafting

Some patients need bone augmentation before or during implant treatment.

Extractions

Teeth that cannot be restored may need to be removed before replacement.

Type of Final Teeth

A conventional denture, removable implant-supported denture and fixed implant-supported bridge have very different treatment structures and costs.

Materials

The restorative material selected for crowns, bridges or implant-supported teeth can influence pricing.

Sedation

Sedation or anesthesia may be charged separately.

Location

Dental treatment prices vary geographically.

Provider

Fees can differ among general dentists, prosthodontists, oral surgeons and implant-focused dental centers.

Full-Mouth Dental Implants as a Reconstruction Option

For patients missing most or all teeth—or whose remaining teeth cannot be predictably restored—full-arch implant treatment may be one reconstruction option.

Instead of placing an implant for every missing tooth, some full-arch systems use several strategically positioned implants to support an entire arch of replacement teeth.

Options can include:

All-on-4 treatment
Other All-on-X configurations
All-on-6 treatment
Fixed implant-supported bridges
Implant-supported removable dentures
Individual implants and bridges in selected areas

These options are not interchangeable, and the appropriate configuration depends on anatomy, bone availability, restorative needs and clinical planning.

All-on-4 Dental Implants Cost in 2026

All-on-4 is one approach used to replace a complete upper or lower arch with an implant-supported restoration.

CareCredit's April 2026 guide reports:

Average All-on-4 cost: $15,176

Published range: $11,640–$27,500

CareCredit's broader dental procedure database also lists an average of $15,176 for All-on-4 dental implants.

These figures should not automatically be doubled to estimate every two-arch case because actual treatment plans, inclusions and provider pricing differ.

Before comparing an advertised All-on-4 price, determine whether it includes:

Consultation
3D imaging
Extractions
Bone grafting
Sedation
Implant placement
Abutments
Temporary teeth
Final prosthesis
Follow-up appointments
Maintenance

All-on-6 Dental Implants Cost

Some full-mouth reconstruction plans use six implants to support a full arch.

CareCredit's current procedure-cost data lists an average of approximately:

$29,980 for All-on-6 dental implants.

That number is a published cost reference, not a universal price.

Whether four, six or another number of implants is appropriate is a clinical decision and should not be determined simply by choosing whichever advertised package costs less.

Single Dental Implant Costs

Full-mouth reconstruction does not necessarily require a full-arch implant system.

A patient who still has many healthy natural teeth might need individual implants only where teeth are missing.

CareCredit's February 2026 guide reports:

Average single full-size dental implant: $2,143

Published range: $1,646–$4,157

The implant itself may not represent the complete restored-tooth cost because crowns and other components can add to the total.

This is why comparing a \"$2,000 implant\" with a \"$15,000 full-arch solution\" without examining what each price includes can be misleading.

Dental Crowns in Full-Mouth Reconstruction

Crowns can be important when natural teeth remain structurally suitable for restoration.

A crown covers a prepared tooth and may be used when a tooth has been weakened or extensively restored.

Current CareCredit data lists examples including:

Resin-based or temporary crown: $697 average
Porcelain-and-metal crown: $1,114 average
Broader published crown costs of approximately $697–$1,399 depending on procedure and materials.

If numerous teeth require crowns, per-tooth costs can make crown-based reconstruction a significant investment.

However, crowns and implants perform different roles. An implant replaces a missing tooth root, while a crown can restore an existing tooth or serve as the visible restoration attached to an implant.

Bridges as Part of Full-Mouth Reconstruction

Dental bridges may replace missing teeth without necessarily requiring an individual implant for every missing tooth.

CareCredit's published averages include:

Bridge Type	Published Average
Acrylic removable bridge	$1,204
Metal removable bridge	$1,812
Single-tooth cantilever bridge	$1,041
Maryland bridge	$1,569
Traditional bridge	$5,197
Implant-supported bridge	$5,195

Actual treatment depends on the location of missing teeth and the health of the supporting teeth or implants.

Dentures vs Full-Mouth Reconstruction With Implants

For extensive tooth loss, dentures can provide another path to replacing teeth.

Options include:

Traditional dentures
Removable teeth supported primarily by oral tissues.

Implant-supported removable dentures
A removable prosthesis that gains additional support or retention from implants.

Fixed implant-supported teeth
A restoration secured to implants and generally removed by a dental professional rather than the patient.

Current CareCredit data illustrates the significant pricing differences between denture categories:

Denture Type	Published Average
Basic upper and lower	$452
Traditional upper and lower	$1,968
Immediate dentures	$2,178
Snap-on dentures	$2,480
Overdentures	$3,136
Mini implant-supported lower denture	$4,394
Premium upper and lower dentures	$6,514

These averages should be treated as reference points rather than quotes.

Fixed Full-Arch Implants vs Implant-Supported Dentures

One of the most commercially important comparisons for patients with extensive tooth loss is whether to consider a fixed full-arch restoration or a removable implant-supported denture.

Fixed Full-Arch Treatment

The replacement teeth are attached to implants and typically remain in place during normal daily use.

Potential considerations include:

Higher treatment complexity
Implant requirements
Cleaning requirements
Prosthetic materials
Repair and maintenance
Higher potential initial expense

Implant-Supported Removable Dentures

The prosthesis can be removed by the patient but uses implants for added support or retention.

Potential considerations include:

Number of implants
Attachment replacement
Daily removal and cleaning
Prosthetic maintenance
Lower initial cost in some treatment plans

Neither option is automatically superior for every senior.

The appropriate choice depends on oral anatomy, bone availability, dexterity, maintenance ability, treatment goals and budget.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction: Choosing a Provider

A local search for full-mouth reconstruction may return general dental offices, prosthodontists, implant centers and multi-location dental groups.

Rather than choosing solely from an advertised starting price, compare the scope of treatment.

Ask whether the practice provides:

Comprehensive dental examination
Digital imaging
CBCT/3D imaging when appropriate
Implant surgery
Prosthodontic treatment
Periodontal treatment
Bone grafting
Extractions
Temporary restorations
Final restorations
Sedation options
Long-term maintenance

Some reconstruction cases require multiple specialists.

Others may be coordinated within one practice.

The important point is understanding who is responsible for each stage and what each stage costs.

What Should Be Included in a Full-Mouth Reconstruction Quote?

For a high-cost dental treatment, an itemized quote is far more useful than a single headline price.

Compare:

Quote Component	What to Check
Consultation	Included or separately billed
X-rays	Included or additional
CBCT scan	Included or additional
Extractions	Number and price
Bone grafting	Included or conditional
Implants	Number and implant system
Abutments	Included or separate
Temporary teeth	Included or separate
Final teeth	Exact material
Crowns	Number and material
Bridges	Type and number
Dentures	Temporary or final
Sedation	Type and fee
Laboratory fees	Included or additional
Follow-up care	Duration included
Repairs	Provider policy
Maintenance	Future expected costs
Insurance	Estimated plan contribution
Financing	APR and repayment term
Total	Estimated patient responsibility

This is particularly important when comparing implant centers because two prices can appear similar while including different services.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction Financing

Because reconstruction can involve substantial out-of-pocket costs, financing is often part of the treatment comparison.

Depending on the provider, possible payment methods can include:

Third-party healthcare financing
Dental financing companies
Credit cards
Personal loans
In-house payment arrangements
Staged treatment
Health savings account funds where eligible
Flexible spending account funds where eligible

CareCredit is one example of third-party healthcare financing and states that financing is subject to credit approval.

The most important financing number is not necessarily the advertised monthly payment.

Compare:

Treatment price → down payment → amount financed → APR → repayment term → fees → total repayment.

Monthly Payment Examples

Suppose a reconstruction costs $15,000.

If $15,000 were divided over 36 months at 0% interest:

$15,000 ÷ 36 = approximately $416.67 per month

For $25,000 over 60 months at 0%:

$25,000 ÷ 60 = approximately $416.67 per month

For $35,000 over 72 months at 0%:

$35,000 ÷ 72 = approximately $486.11 per month

These are mathematical illustrations only, not available financing offers.

Actual financing can involve interest, origination charges, deferred-interest terms or other costs. The actual monthly payment and total repayment can therefore be considerably different.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Full-Mouth Reconstruction?

There is no universal answer because \"full-mouth reconstruction\" can contain multiple procedures with different coverage rules.

A dental insurance plan might evaluate:

Crowns
Bridges
Extractions
Periodontal treatment
Dentures
Dental implants
Bone grafting

separately.

Coverage may also be affected by:

Deductible
Coinsurance
Annual maximum
Waiting period
Missing-tooth clauses
Frequency limitations
Network requirements
Preauthorization
Medical necessity
Exclusions

For a complex treatment plan, ask the dental office whether a pre-treatment estimate can be submitted to the insurer.

That can provide more useful information than simply asking whether the office \"accepts insurance.\"

Does Medicare Cover Full-Mouth Reconstruction?

This is particularly relevant for many seniors considering extensive dental work.

Original Medicare generally does not cover routine dental services such as cleanings, fillings, tooth extractions, dentures or dental implants.

Medicare can cover certain dental services when they're directly related to specific Medicare-covered medical treatment—for example, particular dental care needed in connection with certain organ transplants, heart-valve procedures, cancer treatment or dialysis.

Those exceptions should not be interpreted as general Medicare coverage for dental reconstruction.

Some Medicare Advantage plans may offer additional dental benefits beyond Original Medicare. Benefits and plan rules vary, so patients should verify the specific plan's coverage, network and limitations.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction for Seniors by Age

The age ranges in the Meta creative are useful for maintaining creative-to-article relevance, but they are not clinical eligibility categories.

55–60 Years Old

Treatment planning may focus on preserving natural teeth where appropriate while addressing missing, damaged or heavily restored teeth.

Long-term maintenance can be particularly important because restorations may need care or replacement over time.

61–65 Years Old

Patients approaching Medicare eligibility may want to understand the distinction between medical insurance and dental coverage before beginning extensive treatment.

Dental insurance, financing and staged treatment may become important planning considerations.

66–70 Years Old

Adults in this group may already have Medicare, but Original Medicare generally does not cover routine dental reconstruction, dentures or implants.

Existing dental insurance or Medicare Advantage dental benefits should be checked individually.

71–75 Years Old

Treatment decisions may increasingly involve balancing preservation of natural teeth, treatment complexity, maintenance requirements and replacement options.

Chronological age alone does not determine the appropriate approach.

76–80 Years Old

The dental team may consider oral health, bone condition, medications, existing restorations and general health when evaluating extensive restorative or implant treatment.

81–85 Years Old

A practical treatment plan may place particular emphasis on maintenance, hygiene access, treatment burden and individual goals.

Some patients may be candidates for extensive fixed treatment, while others may prefer a less complex restorative approach.

86+ Years Old

There is no universal age cutoff created by these categories.

Individual health, oral condition, anatomy, treatment goals and ability to maintain the final restoration are more meaningful considerations than age alone.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction vs Cosmetic Dentistry

These terms can overlap, but they should not be treated as identical.

Cosmetic dentistry primarily focuses on appearance.

Full-mouth reconstruction generally addresses extensive restorative or functional dental problems, although improving appearance can also be part of the treatment.

For example, whitening healthy teeth would normally be considered cosmetic.

Replacing multiple failing teeth with crowns, bridges and implants is much more likely to fall within reconstruction.

The distinction can also matter when discussing dental insurance because a procedure performed primarily for appearance may be treated differently from a restorative procedure.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction vs Smile Makeover

\"Smile makeover\" is another term that can create confusion.

A smile makeover may combine cosmetic procedures such as:

Whitening
Veneers
Bonding
Contouring
Clear aligners

Full-mouth reconstruction can involve some of those procedures, but it generally addresses more extensive dental problems.

CareCredit's published data illustrates this distinction by separately listing full-mouth dental reconstruction at approximately $12,577–$33,272, while individual cosmetic procedures have their own costs.

Questions to Ask a Full-Mouth Reconstruction Dentist

Before accepting a treatment plan, consider asking:

Which teeth can reasonably be preserved?
Which teeth are being recommended for extraction and why?
What alternatives exist?
Do I need implants?
How many implants are proposed?
Why is that number recommended?
Is bone grafting expected?
What type of temporary teeth will I receive?
What material will be used for the final restoration?
Who performs the surgery?
Who designs and places the final teeth?
Is sedation included?
What is included in the quoted price?
What could result in additional charges?
What does insurance estimate it will cover?
What financing is available?
What is the APR?
What is the total repayment?
What maintenance will the restoration require?
What happens if something breaks or needs replacement?

For expensive reconstruction, obtaining another professional opinion may also provide a useful comparison of treatment approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does full-mouth reconstruction cost in 2026?

CareCredit currently lists full-mouth dental reconstruction at approximately $12,577 to $33,272, while its more detailed data shows broader ranges extending from about $9,821 to $63,657 depending on the reconstruction category and other factors. Individual treatment can fall outside those ranges.

Is full-mouth reconstruction the same as full-mouth dental implants?

No. Dental implants can be part of reconstruction, but reconstruction may also use crowns, bridges, dentures, periodontal treatment and other procedures.

How much do All-on-4 dental implants cost?

CareCredit's April 2026 guide reports an average of $15,176 and a range of $11,640–$27,500 for All-on-4 treatment.

How much do All-on-6 implants cost?

CareCredit's current dental procedure data lists an average of approximately $29,980 for All-on-6 dental implants. Actual treatment costs vary.

Are dentures cheaper than full-mouth implants?

Published averages for conventional dentures are substantially below published averages for full-arch implant treatments, but these are different treatments with different features, maintenance requirements and clinical indications.

Can seniors get full-mouth dental implants?

Some older adults can be candidates for implant treatment. Suitability requires individual dental and health assessment rather than qualification based solely on age.

Can someone over 80 get full-mouth reconstruction?

Potentially. Age by itself is not enough to determine suitability. The dentist needs to evaluate oral health, anatomy, existing dental work, treatment complexity and relevant health considerations.

Does Medicare cover full-mouth dental implants?

Original Medicare generally doesn't cover dental implants or most routine dental care. Limited dental services may be covered when directly connected with certain covered medical treatments.

Can full-mouth reconstruction be financed?

Many practices offer or accept financing, but terms depend on the provider and lender. Compare APR, term, fees, down payment and total repayment.

How can I compare full-mouth reconstruction dentists?

Compare treatment plans, provider experience, procedures included, implant/restoration materials, total costs, financing terms and long-term maintenance rather than relying solely on an advertised starting price.

Conclusion

Full-mouth reconstruction for seniors can range from restoring multiple natural teeth with crowns and bridges to replacing extensive tooth loss with dentures, implant-supported dentures or fixed full-arch dental implants. The more useful comparison is between what needs treatment, which teeth can be preserved, what replacement method is proposed, what the quote actually includes, how the treatment will be maintained, what insurance may cover and what the total financing cost will be.

Obtaining a comprehensive examination and itemized treatment plan can make it easier to compare full-mouth reconstruction options on an equivalent basis.
