Costco Motorcycle and Car Insurance for Seniors: 2026 Guide

Navigating auto and motorcycle insurance options as a senior driver requires balancing reliable coverage, premium affordability, and specific member benefits. Costco Wholesale partners with CONNECT, powered by American Family Insurance, to offer exclusive insurance savings and tailored features for its members.

For older adults looking to lower monthly fixed expenses in 2026 without sacrificing essential protection, understanding how Costco’s auto and motorcycle insurance offerings work can yield significant cost savings. This guide covers coverage options, senior-specific discounts, policy perks, and how to enroll.

1. How Costco Auto & Motorcycle Insurance Works

Costco does not underwrite insurance policies directly. Instead, it functions as an affinity partner with CONNECT, powered by American Family Insurance.

Auto Insurance: CONNECT provides direct coverage for sedans, SUVs, trucks, and electric vehicles. Costco members receive an immediate member discount upon policy purchase.
Motorcycle & Specialty Insurance: Coverage for motorcycles, ATVs, RVs, and boats is facilitated through CONNECT’s specialty insurance division and partner underwriters.
Exclusive Member Pricing: Active Costco Gold Star and Executive members receive discounted rates compared to standard market quotes. Executive Members gain additional complimentary perks built into their policies.

2. Senior-Specific Discounts & Savings Opportunities

Costco’s program offers multiple stackable discounts that particularly benefit drivers aged 55 and older:

Defensive Driving Course Discount: In many states, seniors aged 55+ who complete an approved defensive driving refresher course receive an additional discount on their premium.
Low-Mileage & Telematics Savings: Older adults who are retired or driving fewer annual miles can take advantage of usage-based insurance programs (such as DriveMyWay or low-mileage adjustments) to reduce monthly payments.
Good Driver & Claims-Free Discount: Drivers who have remained accident-free and violation-free for 3 to 5 years qualify for lower rate tiers.
Multi-Policy & Multi-Vehicle Bundling: Combining auto insurance with homeowners, renters, umbrella, or motorcycle policies triggers substantial multi-product discounts.
Pay-in-Full & AutoPay Savings: Enrolling in automatic payment transfers or paying the annual policy upfront lowers administrative costs and unlocks added savings.

3. Executive Member Perks for Seniors

For senior drivers who hold a Costco Executive Membership, CONNECT policies automatically include valuable protections that offer extra peace of mind:

Executive Perk	Feature & Benefit Details
Lifetime Renewability	Protects qualifying Executive Members from non-renewal after an accident or multiple unexpected claims, so long as the membership and policy remain active.
24/7 Roadside Assistance	Covers towing, flat tire changes, battery jump-starts, and lockout assistance up to policy limits.
Glass Repair Deductible Waiver	Waives the deductible if windshield or window chips can be repaired rather than completely replaced.
Road Trip Accommodation	Reimburses out-of-pocket lodging and meal expenses if an accident occurs more than 100 miles from home.

4. Coverage Options for Motorcycles & Vehicles

Whether driving a commuter vehicle or riding a motorcycle, seniors can customize policy limits to fit their financial needs:

Key Vehicle Coverages

Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability: Protects your assets if you are at fault in an accident causing injury or damage to others.
Comprehensive & Collision: Covers vehicle repairs from collisions, weather events, theft, vandalism, or animal strikes.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: Pays for medical costs and vehicle damage if you are struck by a driver who lacks sufficient insurance.

Key Motorcycle Coverages

Custom Parts & Equipment (CPE): Protects aftermarket additions like custom pipes, saddlebags, chrome, and safety gear.
Guest Passenger Liability: Provides medical liability coverage for passengers riding with you.
Lay-Up / Seasonal Storage: Allows seasonal riders to lower coverage costs during winter months when motorcycles are safely stored.

5. How Seniors Can Apply & Switch

Switching to Costco’s CONNECT insurance program in 2026 involves a straightforward setup process:

Gather Current Documents: Have your current auto/motorcycle policy declarations page, driver’s license numbers, and vehicle identification numbers (VINs) ready.
Retrieve Your Costco Membership Number: Ensure your active Gold Star or Executive membership number is available to unlock rate discounts.
Request a Quote Online or via Phone: Use the official CONNECT portal or call their dedicated Costco member hotline to complete an application.
Apply Eligible Senior Discounts: Mention any completed defensive driving courses, low annual mileage estimates, or bundled policies.
Set Up Auto-Renewal & Cancel Old Policy: Choose an automated payment schedule, set your start date, and notify your previous carrier to avoid coverage gaps.
