This guide explains how Costco-related internet offers may work, how to answer the question “What internet is available at my address?”, and what seniors and other cost-conscious households should review before selecting a service.

How Costco Internet Services Work in Canada

When consumers use the phrase “Costco Internet,” they may be referring to internet packages offered by third-party providers through Costco or a Costco service partner. The internet connection itself is supplied, installed, billed, and supported by the telecommunications company named in the service agreement.

Costco’s residential-services information identifies several major providers:

Rogers packages are available through selected Costco locations in several provinces, including Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland.
Bell packages are offered at selected locations in provinces such as Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
SaskTel services are available in Saskatchewan.

Provider participation can change, and not every warehouse in a listed province will necessarily offer the same services. Consumers should therefore confirm both warehouse participation and service availability at their exact address.

Primus has also provided Costco-related internet services in Canada. Its published Costco pages show that available speeds and prices can differ substantially between provinces. This illustrates why consumers should not assume that an advertised package applies nationally.

Understanding Costco Internet Deals

Costco internet deals may include a monthly promotional rate, activation-related savings, equipment, a member benefit, or a combination of these features. However, the lowest advertised price is only one part of the total cost.

Before accepting an offer, review:

Monthly Price and Promotional Period

Determine whether the displayed price is permanent or applies only for a limited introductory period. Ask what the regular monthly rate will be after the promotion ends and whether the provider may increase the price during the agreement.

Internet Speed

Providers usually advertise speeds using wording such as “up to” a specified number of megabits per second. Actual performance may be influenced by the network technology, home wiring, Wi-Fi conditions, device capabilities, congestion, and distance from network equipment.

A household that mainly uses email, online banking, and standard video may need less capacity than a household with multiple people streaming, gaming, attending video meetings, or uploading large files.

Equipment and Installation

Check whether the modem or Wi-Fi gateway is included, rented, or purchased separately. Installation may be self-directed or completed by a technician. Charges can also apply for special wiring, missed appointments, replacement equipment, or service changes.

Contract and Cancellation Terms

Some offers may be month-to-month, while others may include a fixed-term agreement. Review early-cancellation fees, return requirements for equipment, and the length of any price guarantee.

The Competition Bureau encourages Canadians to compare providers, negotiate, and consider switching when appropriate rather than relying only on a familiar provider’s initial offer.

Costco-Linked Gigabit and Bundle Offers for Older Households

Costco members may encounter residential internet and TV promotions from participating providers at selected Canadian warehouses. Current Costco Mobility information includes incentives such as a bill credit for qualifying Rogers Xfinity services, a prepaid Mastercard with an eligible Bell Internet and TV bundle, and separate activation or bundle incentives from participating providers such as Virgin Plus and SaskTel. These benefits are promotional rather than permanent reductions to the monthly internet price, and the amount, qualifying service, contract requirement, and availability can vary by provider and location.

Some Costco-related providers may offer gigabit internet tiers in eligible areas. For example, Primus publishes Costco-member internet options reaching up to 1 Gbps in certain provinces, while other providers may offer comparable or higher speeds depending on the address. A plan advertised at up to approximately 1,000 Mbps may be useful for households with multiple users, video streaming, remote work, security devices, and other simultaneous connections. However, actual performance depends on the network technology, equipment, Wi-Fi environment, local capacity, and service address, and many smaller households may not need the highest available tier.

Age ranges such as 55–59, 60–64, 65–69, 70–74, 75–79, and 80+ may be used only as general navigation categories for discussing changing household connectivity needs. They are not official Costco or provider pricing tiers, eligibility categories, or guaranteed senior discounts. Older adults should compare the total monthly price, promotional period, equipment, required bundle, speed availability, and number of connected users rather than selecting a plan based on age alone.

What Internet Is Available at My Address?

Internet availability is highly location-specific. Two homes in the same community may have access to different providers or technologies, particularly in rural areas, new developments, apartment buildings, and locations near network boundaries.

Consumers wondering how to check what internet is available at my address can use several methods.

1. Use Provider Address-Check Tools

Visit the websites of providers serving your province and enter your street address and postal code. An address search may show available technologies, estimated speeds, installation options, and current packages.

An online result should still be confirmed before ordering. Database information may not reflect building-specific wiring, a recently constructed home, or network capacity at the time of installation.

2. Check Costco’s Participating Locations

Costco’s residential-services page allows users to locate participating warehouses. A representative at a participating location may be able to explain which providers are currently offered and begin an address-qualification check.

3. Review Canada’s Broadband Coverage Maps

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission provides broadband-coverage resources showing where cable, DSL or fibre, fixed wireless, LTE, and other internet technologies are generally available. The national broadband mapping system is supported by provider-network data collected by the CRTC and published through federal mapping resources.

These maps are useful for understanding regional coverage, but they may not identify every package available at a particular house. The CRTC has noted that some national map information is displayed at broader geographic levels rather than as a provider-specific guarantee for each residence.

4. Ask About Building Access

Residents of apartments and condominiums should ask the property manager which providers already have equipment or wiring in the building. The CRTC maintains rules intended to support reasonable telecommunications-provider access to multi-unit residential buildings, but actual service options can still differ from one property to another.

Comparing Internet Technologies

The technology available at an address can affect speed, reliability, latency, and installation.

Fibre internet can provide high download and upload speeds but is not available in every neighbourhood.

Cable internet is widely used in urban and suburban communities. Speeds may be high, although performance can vary during busy periods.

DSL internet operates over telephone lines. Available speed often depends on the quality of the line and distance from provider equipment.

Fixed wireless internet connects a residence to a nearby wireless tower. It can be important in rural communities, but trees, terrain, distance, and weather may influence performance.

Satellite internet may serve remote areas where wired networks are unavailable. Consumers should review equipment costs, latency, data policies, and installation requirements.

Low-Cost Internet for Seniors

Canadians researching low cost internet for seniors should compare regular market offers with government-supported affordability programs.

The Government of Canada’s Connecting Families Initiative provides discounted internet services to eligible low-income families and seniors. Current federal information describes two plan levels priced at $10 and $20 per month, plus tax, through participating internet service providers. Eligibility is determined by the federal program rather than by Costco or the participating provider.

For seniors, eligibility generally requires receiving at least 80% of the maximum Guaranteed Income Supplement amount. Eligible households normally receive an official invitation letter from the Government of Canada or Service Canada. Consumers cannot simply enrol based only on their age or income estimate.

Seniors who are not eligible for Connecting Families can still ask providers about basic-speed packages, month-to-month services, loyalty rates, accessibility support, and temporary promotions. It is important to confirm whether a “senior internet plan” is a formal age-based product or simply a general offer marketed toward older adults.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Plan

Before ordering a Costco-related or directly purchased internet service, ask the provider:

What is the full monthly price, including mandatory fees?
When does the promotional rate end?
What download and upload speeds are available at the exact address?
Is data unlimited, or does the plan include usage limits?
Is Wi-Fi equipment included?
Are activation or installation fees charged?
Is there a contract or early-cancellation fee?
What happens to the price if other bundled services are cancelled?
How and when must rented equipment be returned?
Which company provides billing, technical support, and complaint handling?

Consumers should retain the written order summary, terms, and promotional details. The CRTC’s Internet Code establishes consumer protections related to internet contracts and service information for covered providers.

Conclusion

Costco can be a useful starting point for Canadians comparing home internet, but Costco internet plans are supplied by participating telecommunications companies rather than through one uniform national Costco network. Provider selection, speeds, promotions, and member benefits may differ by province, warehouse, building, and street address.

The most reliable process is to check participating Costco locations, qualify the exact service address with multiple providers, compare the total cost after promotions, and review equipment and cancellation terms. Seniors and low-income households should also determine whether they have received an invitation to participate in the federal Connecting Families Initiative.
